Eleanore Bodde: MN
Eleanore Bodde, 10, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. Her favorite subjects are math and reading, and in her spare time she enjoys playing basketball, creating art, practicing Tae Kwon Do, playing piano, and reading a good book. She is currently working hard to advance from purple to brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. Her family says that N2K has really boosted her love for math as well as rapidly increased her math fact skills, especially with learning exponents and quick mental calculations. It’s been joyful to see her excitement and passion for the competition!
Lucy Bollweg: IL
Lucy Bollweg, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. A 2018 National Memory Master finalist, Lucy’s favorite subjects are history, reasoning, Latin, literature and science. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, hiking, playing soccer, running, violin, and calligraphy. She also loves learning about theology. Lucy’s genuine love for the Lord has given her a desire to serve orphans and the elderly, and she also loves serving her church body. Lucy enjoys challenging herself to do hard things for the glory of God.
David Brenner: IL
David Brenner, 12, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. David’s favorite subject is math and his hobbies include building Legos and other things, basketball, and baseball. He loves aviation and would like to get his pilot's license. One of the blessings of National Number Knockout for David is that he has grown in friendship with other students who are participating in N2K with him.
Steven Christie: FL
Steven Christie, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the second time this year. Steven’s favorite subject is logic, and in his spare time he enjoys piano, drama, gymnastics, reading, and solving Rubik's cubes. Last winter, Steven hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back out. Two years ago Steven helped start a local N2K club, which kept him inspired to keep working on his math skills and gave him a platform to grow as a leader as he encouraged other students to play the game.
Tristan Doner: NE
Tristan Doner, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. A 2019 National Memory Master finalist, Tristan’s favorite subjects are math and science. His hobbies include reading, riding his bike and building Legos with his siblings. Tristan is involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship, volunteers with Good News Club, and teaches 5 Day Backyard Clubs during the summer. Through preparing for National Number Knockout, Tristan has learned determination and perseverance focusing on this as a goal, sharpening his math skills extensively.
Ian Dow: IL
Ian Dow, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the second time this year. A 2018 National Memory Master finalist, Ian’s favorite subjects are math and science. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, practicing taekwondo, and playing the piano. An avid debater, Ian has grown in friendships and mentoring through his participation in N2K. Zecharias Hall and Jude Blalack (both former N2K competitors) guided him when he was preparing for the competition, and Ian reciprocated by training friends for this year's competition.
Jakin Epp: NE
Jakin Epp, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the second time this year. His favorite subjects are algebra and science, and in his spare time he enjoys reading, building with Legos, and creative writing. Since a young boy, Jakin has possessed an insatiable thirst for information and answers to questions. He truly loves to learn for the joy of learning and discovering. Jakin's participation in National Number Knockout has improved his mental math proficiency as N2K has also challenged him to set goals and persevere as he pursues them.
Erik Hill: MN
Erik Hill, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the second time this year. Erik’s favorite subjects are math and science. His hobbies include participating in math contests, mountain biking, and playing tabletop games. Erik is always willing to play a game with his brothers or with friends, and even brings creativity to his gaming with games and game elements he creates himself. Erik has grown in diligence this year as he has consistently made time for practice all year to work toward his goal of not just being an N2K finalist this year but improving his performance in the finals.
Lydia Kipp: VA
Lydia Kipp, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. A 2019 National Memory Master finalist, Lydia’s favorite subjects are English and history. In her spare time, she enjoys dance, reading, writing books, baking, playing the piano, participating in Girl Scouts, and taking care of her guinea pigs. Lydia is looking forward to reconnecting with her National Memory Master friends met on last year’s Cruise as she prepares for the National Number Knockout Competition.
Nathan Michael: UT
Nathan Michael, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. Nathan’s favorite subject is science of any kind, especially biology and zoology. In his spare time, he enjoys reading as well as hiking in the nearby Rocky Mountains. Nathan has a very compassionate spirit and loves to encourage others. Through N2K, his family states that he has learned the value of hard work and how to find joy while being focused on the goal. He also learned to view a challenge as something to be desired and that he could overcome by taking one step at a time.
Cameron Modock: FL
Cameron Modock, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. Cameron’s favorite subjects are math and science; and in his spare time, he enjoys cooking, playing golf, parkour, playing soccer, reading, and creating origami. Cameron has a heart for God and he genuinely cares for others. His family states that N2K has definitely increased Cameron's speed in performing mental arithmetic operations. More-so and to their pleasant surprise, N2K has also improved his personal character traits such as being a team player and speech articulation that will benefit him for the rest of his life.
Charis Ng: OH
Charis Ng, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. A 2019 National Memory Master finalist, Charis’ favorite subjects include science, cartography, and art. In her spare time, Charis enjoys knitting, reading, doing gymnastics, and writing in calligraphy. Her family says that mental math is not something that Charis has spent a lot of time doing previously in her studies, so the preparation for her scouting video was thus quite a new and challenging experience for her. Even though she has always been a motivated student who aims to achieve her goals through dedication and hard work, participation in N2K has really challenged her to venture out of her comfort zone to work patiently on a less familiar territory.
Lucas Nowak: MN
Lucas Nowak, 13, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the second time this year. Lucas’s favorite subjects are math, history, and playing N2K. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, coding, driving RC cars and drones, playing football, and hanging out with friends. Lucas has participated in a local N2K group independently begun by Ethan Gates, the 2018 N2K champion, for two years. Through his preparation for National Number Knockout, Lucas has learned that determination and consistent practice make results.
Joshua Oh: CA
Joshua Oh, 12, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the second time this year. Joshua’s favorite subjects include science, math, history, and geography; and his interests include archery, cubing, and reading. Joshua enjoys participating in a variety of academic competitions, archery tournaments, and cubing competitions. N2K has greatly strengthened Joshua's mental math ability which helps him in his daily math, logic, reasoning, and problem solving challenges. He also credits N2K for helping him learn the value and discipline of hard work so that now he is reaping the sweet rewards.
Daniel Sigmon: NC
Daniel Sigmon, 11, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. Daniel’s favorite subject is math, and his hobbies include playing N2K, basketball, and video games. Daniel has been eagerly waiting to enter the N2K competition for three years as he watched his older brother in competition and prepared for his turn. He loves to play and is excited to be a national competitor. His family states that, through his preparation for National Number Knockout, Daniel has improved his computation skills as well as his confidence in himself.
Josiah Stockebrand: KS
Josiah Stockebrand, 14, is competing in the National Number Knockout Competition for the first time this year. Josiah’s favorite subjects are math and Latin. In his spare time he enjoys participating in First Lego League (robotics), as well as reading and playing basketball and soccer. Josiah lives in the country and helps his dad farm and ranch alongside his other brothers. His family states that preparing for the National Number Knockout Competition has helped to sharpen his math skills and encouraged respectful competition.
